Fashonista Fridays - Treggings

This week's installment of Fashionist Fridays is brought to you by Treggings.

What *are* treggings you ask? It's a European term that describes a cross between skinny jeans and leggings, which have a high lycra/spandex content and some other stretchy synthetic material such as rayon or polyester so they fit as snuggly as possible. They have been featured prominently on the catwalks the last few years.

Most on the market are glossy metallic in colour so it looks like they have been painted on, and thus the wearing is often subject to street harassment from couture philistines who refer to them as "stripper pants", especially when worn with "stripper shoes", such as these.

I'm featuring Brian Lichtenberg's Stripe in black in the slide show to the left, available exclusively at Karmaloop.com. Read More »»

Metallics by LA Boutique

LA Boutique also has a silver leopard version =(^ . ^)=, all very reasonably priced at under 50 USD.

Nice job on the spotting pattern, I ordered a pair today.

Who I'd love to see enter the market is Sockingirl, but alas their leggings are not suitable for stand-alone wear(I tried, I ended up looking like I forgot my skirt ).

Costume Department has some similar patterns like the tye dyed one show below.

Reinforcing the point, treggings, as opposed to leggings/tights are meant to replace trousers, not serve as an under layer for skirts or shirt dresses are Bejeweled Leggings addition with a very LA airbrush look, the detailing is screened on.

Robin's Jean Black Lycra Leggings are a fitting close to this weeks Fashionista Friday, showing the other end of the spectrum - Jeans that pass for leggings. I have see a lot of generic glossy black liquid latex, this is a little nicer, to differentiate you from the crowd.

1....2.....3....WTF! Otay we have officially entered the creepy zone, people are basing fictional characters off of me without my permission!

A delightfully stylish young lady swayed to a halt before us, struck an elegant and utterly bewitching pose, and bestowed her most charming smile upon us. “Greetings and salutations, darlings,” she said in a low purring voice, like a cat licking cream off a mouse. “I am Lethal Harmony(*cough* Harm *cough*), agent for hire out of Kathmandu. Please, call me Katt(*cough* Sand Cat *cough*). Everyone does"

There was something feline about her. A sense of graceful style, casual cruelty, and vicious power concealed behind a hair trigger, ready to be unleashed on absolutely anyone at a moment.
For the record, I'm not *really* a catgirl, I just play one on the internet, but I am a very cat like girl, I even look "catish"...and I do hide my causal cruelty, viciousness and really ugly hair trigger temper behind veneer of cuteness. Green even stole both my lines that I've been using since I was 16. Read More »»

"Darling"(inflected either condescendingly or sardonically to the point you can touch the words, took years of practice to perfect) AND "Greetings and Salutations", which I sorta purr.

The book also gives away one of my best tricks.

If you can’t be anonymous, hide behind a cliché, and they’ll never see the real you...Until it’s too late.

While I enjoy Green's world imagery as well as his dark, sardonic wit in both Nightside and Secret Histories series, like many male authors he has a tendency to portray even strong female characters as the "weaker" sex, .....or to kill the "bitches" off. Which is unfortunate as he obviously understand at least some of our nature.

Is the male ego that incredibly weak?

Fashonista Fridays - Kelly Ewing's Striped Burgundy & Black Collection

Welcome to Fashionista Fridays, where I, your not-always-friendly neighbourhood catgirl, introduce fashion designers whom I believe are not getting their far share of rave views.

This week's spotlight is on Kelly Ewing, a 28 year old designer out of Manchester, England, who's designs are inspired by Victorian aristocracy to pre-Raphaelite romanticism, Kelly’s collections feature well structured traditional pieces such as boned corsetry that are brought up to date with contemporary twists, clever pattern cutting and sharp tailoring. Vintage fabrics such as Harris tweed are generously pleated and draped to create a luxurious couture look that is complimented with bright silk linings and soft handmade corsage detailing.

I prefer the burgundy /black pieces over her grey/white one as I believe it's truer to the moody, often penumbral atmosphere of pre-Raphaelite eroticized medievalism she seeks to project. Shown at the left is the corset dress, with the distinctive black floral broach(removable) above the bust, and boned corsetry on the back. Sharply tailored it's best suited for small/medium breasted women with rectangular or hourglass figures.Read More »»

The ruffle coat is exceptionally well done, it features a ruffle collar and tie detail, empire line, single button fastening, puffed shoulders, two front pockets and pumpkin hem.
My only complaint is that it falls mid-thigh where the corset dress falls below the knee, leading to a rather odd look where the coat ends and dress begins.

As a tall, leggy athletic girl I don't care for "poofy" skirts as they highlight the fact I'm * too * tall and makes me look skinnier than I really am, but I'm making an exception for Ewing's hitched skirt, which come in short and medium lengths, as she's created three matching top options, also works with the ubiquitous black ribbed boy beater as well.

The first top option is a new spin on an old stand-by, keeping with the eroticized medievalism theme, a one shouldered wrap corset , fully boned with a black contrast rear and traditional ribbon and eyelet fastening.

The second is a button corset

with a halter neck, an over-sized decorative button front, fully boned and brown contrast rear panel with a traditional ribbon and eyelet fastening.

And finally a more conservative short jacket with a press stud adjustable collar, pointed hem, half sleeves, and the same removable distinctive black floral broach found on the corset dress.

This concludes the first instalment of Fashionista Fridays, leave me some comments, let me know what you think.

I'm becoming an XML expert, as I wanted a wider post box, and while colour schemes are nice, my picture background clashed terribly. I'm renaming this the blogkitten template when I'm done as I'm fixing all sorts of bugs.

World Population Day :(

According to United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), the world's population(already at 6.7 billion) will double in the next 40 years if current growth rates are left unchecked.

That would be 13.4 billion people by 2050, the thing is that regardless of which ecological model you use (energy, water, food, biodiversity, climate change), the ecosystem falls apart somewhere between 10-12 billion people, which is why the UN estimates have always stated that the global population would max out at at 9 billion for year despite numerous objections from population experts. It had to, otherwise they would have to concede that billions of people will be condemned to death.

We have officially past the point of no return

A grown-up debate?

From the Stephanomics blog, comment 22 by JadedJean

I'm constantly surprised that far more people don't see that this is what has obviously been engineered for years, but I suspect they are too depressed.
....
It should also be clearer that this has been the effect of increasing the numbers going into Higher Education from 5% of the cohort to 50%, as has feminizing the curriculum - which further reduces the likelihood of the country producing anything as females are not creative in that way. The mass education program has benefited those making loans and rentals etc, but it ha salso weakened the inteligentsia whilst swelling the lower half of the Gaussian curve through delaying motherhood amongst the brighter females. This has been further exacerbated by mass low-skilled immigration from Africa and S.Asia, people who, whilst grateful. and less discerning in what they buy and eagerly vote for yet more anarchism (sold to them as freedom through education which si alie as education doesn't raise intelligence because it's mainly genetic).
So the feminization of the British educational system will lead to economic ruin as women can not produce anything of value, unless the smarter women pop out more bright male children earlier, otherwise those simple minded immigrants from Africa and South Asia(a/k/a blacks/browns) will out breed native whites, leading to anarchy as genetically inferior people can not be educated.

It really is depressing......Jean's mentality that is, which is becoming more and more pervasive. The saddest part is he is trying to represent the left.
